As it happened, Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) thumped St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKNP) by 61 runs in the 15th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022.

Playing a captain's knock, Faf du Plessis scored 60 runs as Saint Lucia marched to 161/9 in the first innings. David Wiese and Matthew Forde ran riot, claiming three-fors, as the Patriots folded for 100 runs.

A dismal batting show

Chasing 162 runs, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots were straightaway put under pressure. With wickets falling continuously, the side found itself in the woods more often than not.

Skipper Evin Lewis's 24-run cameo powered them to 28 runs in just the third over, however, as Forde inflicted further damage, the Patriots were found wanting.

Due to a double whammy of rising required rate and regular fall of wickets, SKNP ended their innings at 100/10 and were inevitably defeated by the Kings with a margin of 61 runs.

Faf shows the way to Saint Lucia

Put in to bat first, the Kings were led by their captain du Plessis with the willow. Also forming an opening partnership of 86 runs with Johnson Charles, Faf's 35-ball 60 was the highlight of the first innings.

While the 38-year-old laid a solid platform for an above-par score on a tough track, it was not meant to be as other batters fell like ninepins.

Still, SLK managed to make their way to 161/9 in 20 overs.

For SKNP, Dwaine Pretorius was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed a three-wicket haul in his four-over spell.
