Sikandar Raza and Tahlia McGrath claim the ICC Player of the Month honours

The International Cricket Council has named its 'Players of the Month' for August 2022. Sikandar Raza and Tahlia McGrath have been given the honour following their brilliant performances in the month of August.

Following his brilliant run stint against Bangladesh and India, Sikandar Raza has been named the ICC Men's Player of the Month. The Zimbabwean all-rounder scored two unbeaten centuries (135* and 117*) against Bangladesh, leading the attack, Raza's performances paved the way for Zimbabwe's historic 2-1 win in the ODI series. 

Against India, Raza, once again stole the shown with a 115 off 95 ball run score. He showed brilliant intent throughout the series and made sure he gave a hard time to the Men in Blue.

 

“I’m incredibly humbled and honoured to have won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award from the ICC. It’s even more humbling being the first Zimbabwean to ever win the award."


The all-rounder also showcased his skills with the ball, scalping a total of 7 wickets in the month. 

With the award Raza creates history by becoming the first Zimbabwe international to win the award. 


Tahlia McGrath 

The Australian power hitter has had a phenomenal stint in the past month, being a frontrunner in Australia's victory at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Teammate Alyssa Healy clinched the award in April 2022. 


“I’m honoured to have been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for August given there are so many great players who are at the top of their game at the moment."


During the month, Healy scored a total of 114 runs at the average of 57 and scalped 5 wickets at 13.40. McGrath has been one of the strongest pillars of the Australian batting lineup, coming through with scores and hitting big when needed. She has also successfully played the role of the finisher. 

The explosive hitter also ranked 12th in the MRF Tyers Women's ICC T20I Player's rankings, a career high.
