Nottinghamshire captain Steve Mullaney declared his side’s first innings at 618. Opener Haseeb Hameed and number three batter Ben Duckett formed a 403-run second-wicket stand for their side, with each of them plundering huge centuries.

In response, hosts Derbyshire reached 164-2 with wicketkeeper-batsman Brooke Guest and Wayne Madsen guarding the fort with crafty half-centuries.

For Middlesex, Tom Helm made headlines with the ball as he collected five wickets off his 31.2 overs. The hosts reached 103 before stumps, with both openers still intact at the crease.
