'Corruption At It's Peak': Pakistan Cricketer Exposes Police Extortion

Pakistan cricketer Sohaib Maqsood recently expressed his distressing experience with Sindh Police. The 36-year-old middle-order batsman said that while he was travelling to Multan for his side’s subsequent National T20 Cup 2023 fixture, he along with teammate Aamer Yamin were intercepted by unethical policemen in Sindh.

Maqsood added that even though the players identified themselves as international cricketers for Pakistan, the aforementioned officials kept extorting money from them.


Maqsood’s shocking revelations lands policemen in jail

Sohaib Maqsood recently took to X (formerly Twitter) where he shared his harrowing experience with Sindh police officials. The cricketer wrote that he was travelling to Multan with his teammates for a National T20 Cup 2023 match, they were intercepted by Sindh Police who coerced the players into bribing them.

Moreover, Maqsood said that even after giving them the money, they were stopped a while later for money by the police officials. The 36-year-old claimed that they were not spared by the policemen even after they had identified themselves as international cricket players.

Following Maqsood’s complaints, as many as four police officers were arrested in Sarkand while two more officials were suspended from duty. Sindh’s Deputy Inspector General of Police, Pervaiz Chandio said that the accused policemen were patrolling in Sarkand road and they have confessed to extorting money from the cricketer.

However, he added that the policemen had charged Maqsood because he was using a fancy number plate and beam lights.

Sohaib Maqsood is currently representing Multan Region in Pakistan’s National T20 Cup. While he is no longer in contention for national selection, the middle-order batsman played 29 T20Is and 26 ODI matches for Pakistan between his debut in 2013 up until his final appearance in 2021.
