Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar To Discuss Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli's T20I Future In West Indies

Ajit Agarkar, who was recently appointed as the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee, is slated to join the Indian camp in West Indies during the second Test match. The former cricketer will be conducting a meeting with Team India coach Rahul Dravid along with senior members like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

The meeting will mark Agarkar’s first discussion with the team ever since he was appointed to the chairman role by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

World Cups roadmap top agenda of Agarkar's meet

Ajit Agarkar is expected to have repeated discussions with the Indian team during the upcoming second Test in Port of Spain. The former all-rounder will also extend his stay for India’s subsequent white-ball series against West Indies.

One of the top agendas of the meeting would be to discuss the roadmap for the upcoming World Cup 2023 and next year’s T20 World Cup.

Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness, along with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s impending return to the Indian squad will likely form the highlights of the ODI World Cup discussion, considering the three are currently nearing their full recovery stage. Injury concerns aside, a group of players for the ODI World Cup have already been identified.

The chief selector will extend his conversations with Team India seniors Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma regarding their stance over next year’s T20 World Cup. The two batting veterans have not featured in any T20I for India ever since team’s crashing exit from last year’s tournament in Australia.

Several reports suggest that the two are not featuring in BCCI’s future scheme of things for T20Is, and Hardik Pandya is likely to continue as team captain in the format.

The much-awaited ODI World Cup is set to be played in India in October and November this year. Prior to the big event, the ‘Men in Blue’ will compete in the ODI Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the T20 World Cup 2024 will be played around June next year in West Indies and the United States.
