On Day 2 of the ongoing Test match between India and West Indies in Dominica, Indian captain Rohit Sharma achieved a significant milestone, becoming only the second Indian player after Virat Kohli to surpass the 3500-run mark in all three formats of international cricket. Rohit reached this remarkable feat by completing 3500 runs in Test cricket.

With this accomplishment, Rohit now has accumulated over 3,500 runs in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. Prior to this match, he was 63 runs away from achieving the 3500-run mark in Tests and achieved it with a single in the 49th over of India's first innings on July 13.

In his international career, Rohit has amassed 3540 runs in Tests, 9825 runs in ODIs, and 3853 runs in T20Is. His teammate Virat Kohli is the only other Indian batsman to have crossed the 3500-run milestone in all three formats. Kohli currently boasts 12,898 runs in ODIs, 8515 runs in Tests, and 4008 runs in T20Is. Meanwhile, New Zealand's Martin Guptill is the third player overall to have achieved this feat.

Rohit became the 20th Indian batters to accomplish the 3500-run mark in Test cricket. Among the active Indian players, only Kohli (8479), Cheteshwar Pujara (7195), and Ajinkya Rahane (5066) have scored more runs in Tests than Rohit.

Opening the batting alongside debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit displayed his batting prowess by completing his century off 220 balls during the second session of Day 2. This was his second Test century of 2023 and his second overseas century, making it his 10th century in red-ball cricket.

To reach the three-figure mark, Rohit struck a four through cover off Alick Athanaze's full toss and acknowledged the applause with a gentle raise of his bat. However, on the very next ball, he was undone by extra bounce, resulting in his dismissal as he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Joshua da Silva. Athanaze claimed his maiden Test wicket, ending Rohit's innings at 103.

At the end of the second day's play, Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 143, accompanied by Kohli, who was unbeaten on 36. Despite employing nine bowlers, West Indies struggled to claim wickets as Jaiswal and Rohit held firm for India, fortifying their position in the match.
