Former cricketer Charlotte Edwards has been appointed as England Women’s new head coach. After years of proving her worth both with the bat and from the dugout, the England legend is stepping into the hot seat, ready to steady the ship after a complete Ashes disaster.

Charlotte Edwards Returns To The Helm As England Women’s Head Coach

The woman who once ran the show as captain is now the boss of the dressing room. And to be honest, this might just be the shot in the arm English cricket badly needed.

Charlotte Edwards isn’t just any name in women’s cricket. With over 300 matches under her belt, including 200-plus as skipper, she has seen it all. From World Cup highs to Ashes battles, Edwards led from the front for a decade.

And now, after England’s 16-0 thumping in the 2024 Ashes and the sackings of both coach Jon Lewis and captain Heather Knight, it’s Edwards who has been asked to pick up the pieces.

She knows the game like the back of her hand. And now, she is back with the three lions on her chest and a point to prove.

Charlotte Edwards Record As Coach

If there is one thing Lottie knows, it is how to win. She has done it as a player. She has done it as a captain. And now she is smashing it as a coach.

Under her leadership, the Southern Vipers have been a powerhouse in domestic cricket. In The Hundred, her Southern Brave side lifted the title in 2023. And she has already made the Mumbai Indians Women a WPL powerhouse with two titles in just three seasons. Even in the Aussie Big Bash, her Sydney Sixers made the final in 2022.

Edwards comes in with fire in her belly and a stacked summer ahead. England are set to play West Indies and India at home before heading to India again for the 50-over World Cup in October. It is a short runway but if there is anyone who can get this team firing again, it is her.

As for who will lead the team on the field, that is still up in the air. With Heather Knight sacked from captaincy but staying on as a player, the focus now turns to vice-captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and rising star Charlie Dean both of whom have put their hands up for the job.

What Edwards Had To Say After Her Appointment

Speaking after the announcement, Edwards didn’t hold back:

“I cannot wait to take this team forward and drive us to success. It means the world to me to have the three lions on my chest once again.”

After the Ashes hammering, England Women needed a fresh voice, a familiar face and a proven winner. They have found all three in Charlotte Edwards. It is a full circle moment for the legend and with the World Cup on the horizon, the timing couldn’t be better.
