In a concerning development for Australia, ace all-rounder Cameron Green is doubtful for the high-voltage Test series against India on home soil. According to Cricket.com.au, Green sustained a back injury that ruled him out of the ongoing One-Day International series against England.
The all-rounder complained of back soreness after Australia's heavy defeat in the third ODI at Riverside Ground in Chester-Le-Street. Following the incident, he went for scans in London, as the report revealed his back injury, sidelining him from the penultimate affair at Lord's.
The report claims it will be challenging for Green to regain match fitness and make himself available for the all-important Test series against India at home. One of the Australian team's spokespersons disclosed that Green's recovery status would be unknown until he joins the team set up for the opening encounter at Optus Stadium in Perth.
How Will Cameron Green's Absence Affect Australia's WTC Campaign?
Currently, Australia are placed second in the World Test Championship points table, with India claiming the first position. So, Australia's Test series against India gives the former a golden opportunity to dethrone their counterparts and boost their chances of qualifying for the WTC final at Lord's.
In such a scenario, Green will be a huge miss for Australia, as he can be one of their most valuable assets in home conditions. Apart from scoring crucial runs down the order, Green's ability to strike with the ball makes him a potent all-round option. He has exhibited remarkable growth in the purest format, amassing 302 runs, including a memorable 174* against New Zealand, in four Test matches this year.
However, if the back injury leads to his exclusion from Australia's squad for the India series, the hosts might hand Aaron Hardie a maiden Test call-up to bolster their line-up. Led by Pat Cummins, the Aussies will face India in a five-match series, with the opening clash taking place in Perth on November 22.
