Swashbuckling batter Jos Buttler played a pivotal role in England's emphatic victory over West Indies in the first T20I at Riverside Ground last night. Coming at number three, Buttler hammered 96 runs off just 59 balls, powering the Englishmen to a sizeable total of 188 runs.

Jos Buttler Goes Past Virat Kohli On Elite List

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, England had a shaky start to their innings, losing reliable opener Ben Duckett for a single run. However, Buttler steadied the ship with keeper-batter Jamie Smith, stitching a valuable 79-run stand for the second wicket.

Although Smith departed for 38 and Harry Brook was castled for six, Buttler continued his onslaught on the visiting bowlers, eventually bringing up a sublime half-century. He missed a well-deserved century, being dismissed for 96 by Alzarri Joseph. However, the explosive batter overtook Virat Kohli on the list of highest run-getters against West Indies in T20I cricket.
