Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced its list of players who will receive international contracts for the 2025-26 season, starting October 1, 2025. These contracts guarantee players regular pay and benefits in return for being available for national duty.

For the men’s team, 15 players have been given senior contracts. Twelve players from last season kept their spots, but three familiar names have missed out: former Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite, wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva, and all-rounder Kavem Hodge.

Notably, they have been replaced by Justin Greaves, Sherfane Rutherford, and spinner Jomel Warrican.

New young stars receive starter contracts

In addition, three youngsters, Jewel Andrew, Jediah Blades, and Johann Layne, have received “starter contracts.” These are development deals aimed at grooming talent for the future.

CWI’s Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, explained that selections were based on current form and the bigger plan of preparing teams for future global tournaments.

The women’s team also saw changes. Fast bowlers Jannillea Glasgow and Shawnisha Hector earned full contracts, while Shamilia Connell, Cherry Ann Fraser, Chedean Nation, and Rashada Williams missed out.

However, experienced stars like Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor, Deandra Dottin, and Shemaine Campbelle continue to lead the squad. Young players Jahzara Claxton and Realeanna Grimmond received starter contracts.

CWI also announced academy contracts for 15 men’s players and 14 women’s players. These contracts aim to build a stronger pipeline of talent for the future.

The decisions come at a time when both West Indies teams are under pressure. The women’s side recently failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2025 but did manage a morale-boosting T20I series win against South Africa in June.

The men’s team has also had a tough year, suffering a humiliating 27 all out in a Test against Australia and losing a T20I series to Nepal. Their main highlight was an ODI series win against Pakistan in August 2025.
