Bilateral series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka to go ahead as planned

One of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials has given the confirmation on the Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka going ahead according to schedule in July-August 2022. 

PCB asserted that they would support Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) during these difficult times, and they have no issues touring the 'Island nation' for the two-match Test series. A few days back, the ODI matches were scrapped from the series, as the SLC wanted to organize the Lanka Premier League (LPL), one week earlier.

"We are always ready to support Sri Lanka Cricket even in difficult times, and we have no issues touring the country for the Test series," a PCB official said, according to PTI. 

This statement comes in the aftermath of economic and political turmoil in Sri Lanka and the violent protests for the past two months. In addition, only 12 hours of electricity are provided to the people due to the fuel shortage. 

The PCB official reckoned that there exists a strong relationship between both the boards and assisted each other in the past. He further added that they would accept the decision of SLC to play against Sri Lanka at any neutral venue as well. 

"We have a very strong relationship with the Sri Lankan Board, the two countries have always supported each other in difficult situations," the official said.

"Whatever decision the SLC deems best we will accept it playing in Sri Lanka or even at a neutral venue," he added. 

The Sri Lankan team is currently touring Bangladesh for a two-match Test series. Then, they will be hosting the Australian team for an all-format series which will get underway in the first week of the following month.
