IPL 2022 | ‘It will be hard for CSK to leave him out of the squad’- Bates on Conway

Devon Conway has been a revelation for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side. Conway has been the only shining light for MSD’s men despite the defending champions having a poor outing.

He has been performing well for the Super Kings and has amassed 231 runs in five games, at an average of 57.75. After failing to impress in the opening contest against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he did not feature in the playing XI till the end of April.

However, there was no turning back for the dashing southpaw once he came back in the side. He smashed three consecutive half-centuries and formed a formidable opening partnership alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Not only in India, but Conway has his admirers back in New Zealand as well. White-Ferns star all-rounder Suzie Bates reckons that it will be hard for the CSK side to leave out Conway from the playing XI after his stellar performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

“Being from New Zealand, I think all the New Zealanders in the squad should be playing in the IPL. It is really a tough competition to get opportunities until you do not prove yourself at that level. But now that Conway has done that, it will be hard for CSK to leave him out of the squad. He has proved himself in Tests, ODIs and T20s in India,” said Bates, as quoted by ANI.

“I am sure he will get plenty of opportunities. It is great to see NZ players perform at that level, and I know they love playing the competition as well,” she further added.

Conway was unfortunate in the previous game against Mumbai Indians (MI), and the Kiwi opener will be eager to get some runs under his belt in CSK’s upcoming match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday.
