England fast bowler Olly Stone has been ruled out of all cricket for 14 weeks due to a right knee injury. He recently had surgery, and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Friday that he won't be part of the upcoming Test matches against India and Zimbabwe this summer.
England Summer Plans Shaken As Olly Stone Faces Long Layoff
Stone, who had been picked for Test series in Pakistan and New Zealand last winter, didn’t get to play in those matches. However, he had a decent performance last year, taking seven wickets in two Tests against Sri Lanka.
Unfortunately, during Nottinghamshire’s pre-season tour in Abu Dhabi last month, Stone started feeling increased pain in his knee. Scans conducted this week showed the injury was serious and required surgery.
Following the procedure, the ECB said Stone will now begin a rehabilitation program with support from the medical teams of both the ECB and Nottinghamshire. He’s expected to be out of action until August 2025.
Olly Stone To Miss India and Zimbabwe Tests
The 31-year-old will miss the start of the English summer, but he hopes to be fully fit by August 2025. He last played for England in an ODI against Australia and was hoping to return to red-ball cricket this April with Nottinghamshire. To get in shape, he also played in the IL T20 in Sharjah for Dubai Capitals earlier this year.
Sadly, this injury means he will now miss six important Test matches this summer – one against Zimbabwe at his home ground in Trent Bridge starting May 22, and a five-match series against India.
However, Stone is now in tough competition with bowlers like Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson, Mark Wood, and Jofra Archer to get back into England’s Test team, especially with the Ashes series in Australia coming up in seven months.
