England Test captain Ben Stokes will use his six-month break post 2023 Ashes to address his left-knee issue. During the initial stages of the IPL 2023 season, the all-rounder coped a knee injury while playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The injury has prevented him from bowling long spells, as evidenced from the ongoing home series against the Australians. While Stokes has limited himself to playing only Tests for England, the 32-year-old will next be seen gracing his nation’s jersey in January 2024, when his side tours India for a five-match series.

Ben Stokes says he wants to sort out his knee issue

Ben Stokes delivered short spells against Australia in the first two matches of the 2023 Ashes series. Meanwhile, the all-rounder completely refrained himself from bowling in the subsequent two fixtures, and will likely continue the trend in the series-deciding Test at The Oval as well.

Notably, the upcoming contest against Australia will mark Stokes’ final outing for at least the next six months, as England are not scheduled to play another Test match until January 25 next year against India.

The all-rounder recently stated that he will be using his upcoming break to sort out his knee issue, as he expressed his desire to bowl again for his country without having to worry about the injury. He said:

“It's something I obviously want to get sorted. That is a good time to have some serious conversations with medics around what is potentially something I could do to get a role in which I can bowl without having to worry about my knee.”

In the meantime, England will face Australia in the fifth Ashes 2023 Test, set to launch on July 27. The match, a must-win one for the hosts, will be played out at The Oval in London. Australia, led by Pat Cummins, will head into the decider with a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
