Despite all the drama that unfolded towards the final fifteen minutes of the Manchester Test, Ben Stokes unlocked a stellar Test milestone, which has never been achieved by any English player. Stokes was adjudged the Player of the Match for a brilliant hundred, and a fifer in the 4th Test match, but the game ended in a stalemate.

England struggled to dismiss India in the second innings, as the Manchester Test ended with India gaining a morale win. However, despite getting the criticism for his on-field behaviour with Jadeja, Stokes reached new heights in Manchester.

Stokes, the first Englishman to achieve monumental milestone

During the 4th Test vs India, the England captain became the first skipper from his nation to bag 15-plus wickets in a series, while also aggregating 300-plus runs. This was a never-attained before milestone in Tests, and the England captain achieved it with a stellar all-round display.

The only other English player to attain this milestone was Andrew Flintoff, but he did it as a player, and not as a captain. With the final Test match remaining, Stokes has a chance to score more runs, and take more wickets. at the Oval.

Records broken by Stokes in Manchester

The England captain slammed a majestic ton, and also picked up a five-wicket haul to achieve numerous milestones in Tests.

  • He became the fifth captain to smash a hundred and grab a fifer in the same Test match. The other four skippers were Denis Atkinson, Imran Khan, Gary Sobers, and Mushtaq Mohammad.
  • He also became the fourth captain to attain 10+Test tons, and 5+ fifers in Test cricket. Stokes has 14 Test hundreds and five 5-wicket hauls to his name.
  • The England captain became just the third player to reach the milestone of 7000 Test runs, and 200-plus wickets.
