Rinku Singh & Muttiah Muralitharan [Source: @IPL/x.com]
If there is one ritual that’s now become synonymous with big games at Eden Gardens, it's the ceremonial bell-ringing. And ahead of Match 15 of IPL 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, the buzz was extra special.
Rinku And Murali Kicked Off KKR vs SRH With Iconic Bell
Why? Because KKR’s very own Rinku Singh, playing his 50th IPL match, got the honour of ringing the bell alongside the one and only Muttiah Muralitharan.
Rinku is modern-day Kolkata cult hero, while Muralitharan is one of the biggest legends of the game. And there they were, side-by-side, giving the signal to let the fireworks begin.
How Bell Ringing Became A Norm At Eden Gardens?
The bell-ringing tradition at Eden Gardens isn't just random fanfare. It dates back to September 2016 when Kapil Dev, India’s first World Cup-winning captain, kicked off the ritual by ringing the bell before a Test against New Zealand.
It was the brainchild of Sourav Ganguly, who at the time was the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal. Inspired by Lord’s in England, Ganguly made sure Eden had its own ceremonial bell, imported and customized.
Since then, no big game at Eden feels complete without that moment. And when you’ve got someone like Rinku Singh, a home crowd favourite, sharing that honour with Murali, you know it’s a goosebumps affair.
KKR vs SRH Live Score
Well, the toss didn’t go KKR’s way. SRH skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first. And let’s just say things got a bit rocky from the get-go for the home side.
Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine were both back in the hut inside the first three overs. Not exactly what KKR fans were hoping for after the emotional high of Rinku’s bell moment. Captain Ajinya Rahane and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi are at the crease with KKR at 17/2 after 3 overs.
