In a significant development, there are reports that India's chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, has come under the scanner of the BCCI, and his job might be under threat because of recent results in England. According to The Telegraph, the Roger Binny-led board are keeping a close eye on Agarkar, who is currently in England with the rest of the squad.

Why Is BCCI Upset With Agarkar?

According to report, BCCI is unhappy with Ajit Agarkar and East Zone selector Shiv Sundar Das over team selection during the England tour. Notably, benching Kuldeep Yadav and Abhimanyu Easwaran for the entire series has irked the apex cricket board in India.

"The coaches always talk of balance, but keeping a world-class wrist spinner like Kuldeep Yadav out has had disastrous consequences," Hindustan Times quoted a source.

In these four Tests, the India management has handed debut to Anshul Kamboj, brought in Washington Sundar, but completely sidelined Kuldeep Yadav, who has been India's primary spinner since R Ashwin's retirement.

"It is understood that the role of the two members of the national selection committee who are on tour with the squad, chairman Ajit Agarkar and East’s representative Shiv Sundar Das, has also come under introspection," the report added.

Notably, Agarkar is present with the squad and is often seen engaging in longer chats with head coach Gautam Gambhir and India captain Shubman Gill. Agarkar was roped in as India's chief selector in July 2023, and it has been two years since his appointment.

Morne Morkel And Ryan Ten Doeschate Under Fire

The report also added that bowling coach Morne Morkel and Gambhir's assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate are also under the scanner and might be axed from their roles during BCCI's review after the England tour.

The BCCI would look to wait till Asia Cup 2025 which is in September and then take a tough call on these two positions.

Gautam Gambhir's Job Not In Danger

The same report mentioned that there is no threat to Gautam Gambhir's job despite registering just two Test wins since he joined the Indian team in July 2024.

It is worth noting that Gambhir guided India to their 3rd ICC Champions Trophy in March 2025, which was also his first white-ball ICC event as India coach. Thus, success in white-ball events has helped Gambhir to keep his job secure.
