The 50-over World Cup is coming to India, 12 years after that famous six over long on by MS Dhoni at the Wankhede Stadium. The excitement is growing with each passing day and now BCCI, the richest cricket board in the world have decided to leave no stones unturned in making the 2023 Cricket World Cup a world-class spectacle.

The World Cup is scheduled to be held in October- November and BCCI has now planned to renovate at least five major stadiums as of now. The stadiums in India have improved by leaps and bounds over the years but still there are some stadiums who have faced the rage of fans for not delivering better facilities.

The five venues in the list include - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Mohali and Hyderabad. The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi recently came under scanner when many fans complained about lack of clean toilets in the venue for India-Australia game. Also, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai have been renovated a bit recently with better sanitation facilities after some complaints.

This is a general problem in most of the Indian grounds and BCCI has now realised that fans  deserve better in a country which is known as a superpower in cricket. The decision was taken after GAP assessment from the BCCI.

Cost of Project

The cost of the project is expected to be huge and is likely to be in hundreds of crores. It all depends on what kind of work is undertaken but if the roof renovation is also taken into account, then the cost can increased further. However, it will not be possible in Delhi due to structural flaws in the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

As of now, it is expected that it will cost INR 100 crore to renovate Delhi Stadium while for Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the cost will rise up to INR 127.47 crore. For Hyderabad, it will be INR 117.17 crore. The cost though is expected to be less for Wankhede Stadium and Mohali with INR 78.82 crore and INR 79.46 crore respectively.

We might see more stadiums getting added to this list in future with 12 venues as of now shortlisted for the World Cup games. There will be 48 games played in the World Cup over the course of 46 days and it is bound to catch the imagination of fans around the world. The probable 12 venues are -  Ahmedabad (Likely to host the final of the World Cup), Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Dharamsala, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot.

England are the defending champions with a win in the last edition in 2019. It was an exciting world cup last time around and this one with top 10 teams is expected to be another entertaining event.
