Suryakumar Yadav lit up the cricketing world with his T20 exploits last year for India on the international stage, accumulating 1,164 runs in 32 T20Is. However, 2023 has not been so kind to the ICC ranked No.1 T20I Batter, who is undergoing a rough patch after making three consecutive golden ducks against Australia in the One-Day Internationals (ODI) series prior to the Indian Premier League (IPL).

As one of the Mumbai Indians' mainstays in batting, Yadav has managed just 16 runs in IPL 2023, which has given rise to criticism against the batter. Former Indian player and coach Ravi Shastri has adviced the explosive player to display patience in the middle and not be in a rush to score.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, ahead of Mumbai's tie against Delhi Capitals this evening, Shastri stated that SKY is just a knock away from being back amongst the runs.

Here's what Shastri adviced

“There’s going to be light at the end of the tunnel, he’s going to be seeing that very soon. And when he sees that, he’s going to grab it and make the most of it. So the advice to him would be just give yourself a little bit of time early on, even though it’s T20 cricket.

One good hit and you’re on your way. That’s what he needs – one good hit, and a little bit of time at the crease. Not 20-30 minutes, maybe six balls or eight balls, and I think he’d be fine.”

The 32-year-old in 125 IPL matches, has scored 2,660 runs at a strike rate of 136.34, which include 16 fifties.

Overall, the Mumbai-born has played one Test, 23 ODIs, and 48 T20Is for India since 2021, amassing 2,116 runs combined.
