In a significant development around IPL 2025, there are reports that the BCCI has delayed their decision on the retentions for the forthcoming season. According to a report from Cricbuzz, the Roger Binny-led board, which was likely to announce their decision on the retention list by mid-September, will now take an additional ten days or two weeks.
BCCI To Delay Decision On Retentions
The BCCI has scheduled its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 29 in Bengaluru, and as per the Cricbuzz report, the board is likely to announce its decision alongside the meeting.
Further, it is also understood that the teams have been asked to finalise their retention list by November 15. The auction, likely scheduled for December, will certainly feature the Right to Match (RTM) options too.
BCCI Considering Uncapped Rule For Retired Players
Also, in a delight for CSK and MS Dhoni fans, the BCCI is also considering a much-debated move of classifying retired international players as uncapped. Notably, the five-time winners have asked the BCCI to allow them to retain MSD as an uncapped player going into IPL 2025 as he has been retired for more than five years.
Meanwhile, CSK CEO denied such claims and remarked that the franchise has not made any such request to the apex cricket board in India.
“I've no idea about it. We've not requested for it. They have themselves told us that the 'uncapped player rule' may be kept, that's all. They haven't announced anything as yet. The rules and regulations will be announced by the BCCI.”
It is worth noting that in case, BCCI allows the uncapped rule, then KKR too would favour from it as Sunil Narine too bid adieu to the game in 2019.
