In a shocking revelation, Rohit Sharma might have complained to former India international and one of the greatest ever batters, Sunil Gavaskar, to BCCI. The incident relates to the former cricketer criticizing Rohit during the Border Gavaskar trophy and the Indian skipper getting frustrated with it.

Notably, India suffered a humiliating defeat against Australia in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. Looking at the team's below-par performances, the Indian great did not mince his words while lashing out at the team's captain.

Gavaskar Criticised Rohit Sharma's Move To Skip The First Test Of The Series

As reported by Cricket Addictor, the incident tracks back before the start of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Rohit Sharma decided to skip the first game of the five-match Test series due to the first of his second child. Sunil Gavaskar was not impressed by the move as he felt the absence of the captain during an important season could affect the team. He stated that if Rohit does not want to play the first game, he should skip the entire series and let Jasprit Bumrah lead the side.

India won the first match at Perth under Bumrah's leadership, and Rohit joined the team ahead of the second game. However, Sharma struggled as a batter, and the team failed to deliver the same level of performance under his captaincy. The Indian skipper's struggles again saw Gavaskar going hard at him.

Ahead of the final game of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Rohit Sharma decided to drop himself due to the lack of his batting form. This move caused Gavaskar to raise concerns about Rohit's place on the team. He said that if the captain is unsure of his spot in the team, he should retire from the game.

Rohit Sharma Felt Gavaskar's Criticism Was Unnecessary

The criticism from the 1983 World Cup winner did not go down well with the Indian skipper. As per the report of Cricket Addictor, a source has revealed that Rohit Sharma has complained to BCCI about Sunil Gavaskar. The Indian skipper's sighted external pressure impacted his performances during the series.

'Rohit felt that it was not necessary for Gavaskar to criticize him in that fashion, and that is why he complained to the BBCI about Gavaskar. All these added to so much pressure that he was compelled to tell it all to the BCCI," - revealed the source.

Rohit Sharma and Gavaskar Attended The Wankhede 50 Years Anniversary

This incident was unveiled after Rohit and Sunil Gavaskar shared the same stage during the 50th Anniversary of the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

After his lean patch, Sharma decided to get his basics right and returned to the domestic circuit. He played for Mumbai in the match against Jammu and Kashmir. Although it was not a successful endeavour for the batter, he will be seen playing for the team in the next round of the tournament.
