Despite leading SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a commanding 42-run victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match 65 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, skipper Pat Cummins found himself on the wrong side of the law as the BCCI imposed a fine on him for a Code of Conduct breach.

Pat Cummins Punished By BCCI

In a post-match statement on Saturday May 24, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that SRH skipper Pat Cummins has been fined INR 12 lakh for a slow over-rate. The Australian captain’s side was found guilty of not maintaining the required over-rate during RCB’s chase.

This marks Cummins’ first offence under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Cummins was fined INR 12 Lakh,” an official BCCI media release stated.

It is important to note that along with Cummins, RCB captain Rajat Patidar has also been fined by BCCI.

Despite the setback, SRH will be buoyed by their dominant performance, led by Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 94 and Cummins’ tactical bowling decisions. For RCB, the focus will now shift to their final league game as they aim to recover momentum heading into the playoffs.

SRH's Poor Form In IPL 2025

After a record-breaking run to the final in the 2024 IPL, expectations were sky-high from SRH heading into the 2025 season.

However, the campaign ended in disappointment as SRH failed to qualify for the playoffs, crashing out of the league stage with an underwhelming performance. SRH are at the 8th position of the points table with just 5 wins in 13 matches. They will next face KKR on May 25, 2025, and will want to end their campaign with a win.
