Bangladesh will be the first-choice, if Asia cup venue changes: BCB President

It has been uncertain times in Sri Lanka, with the country facing its worst economic crisis due to inflation and the covid pandemic.

Sri Lanka Cricket is scheduled to host Australia next month for a full-fledged tour. However, the former cricketers have doubted the abilities of the board to host the series in the current turmoil successfully.

After that, Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup 2022 from 27 August to 11 September.

In a recent interview, the Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Nazmul Hasan was asked whether they are ready to host the Asia Cup if the venue changes. Hasan reckoned that the Island nation is going through a tough time, and it's not the right time to talk about the issue.

Moreover, he gave a hint that Bangladesh will be the first-choice host if the venue for the Asia Cup 2022 changes in the coming days.

"Sri Lanka is going through a tough time, which means their board is not in a good condition either. It's not the right time to ask such a question," said Hasan.

"Time will tell everything. I was supposed to go to India to meet with the ICC [International Cricket Council] president. I don't think it's the right time to talk about it. But if the venue changes, Bangladesh will be the first choice," he added.

The Asia Cup 2022 will be played in the T20 format, keeping the T20 World Cup in mind.

The last edition of the Asia Cup was conducted in 2018 (ODI format), where India secured its seventh title by beating Bangladesh in a lop-sided final.
