IPL 2022 | Dinesh Karthik: Arshdeep, Yash Dayal, Mohsin have stood out for me this season

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been instrumental in unearthing domestic talents for years, and this edition is no different.

Several cricketers have made their presence felt amidst the galaxy of the stars. And fast bowling, which has never been India's strong point, has been on this incredible rise with Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel, Deepak Chahar, and T Natarajan cropping up over the last few years.

Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has identified three bowlers who have had the most impact on this tournament. Speaking on the ICC's web show, Karthik said Arshdeep Singh, Yash Dayal, and Mohsin Khan have been outstanding bowlers for him.

Talking about Arshdeep, he said, "[I have been impressed by] Arshdeep Singh because he has been so good at the death; I think he has bowled some lovely yorkers and has a lot of control. Even though they have a world-class bowler (Kagiso Rabada) in their lineup, at times, he has stood up for them solely with the ball, and I enjoy that about him."

Arshdeep, playing for the Punjab Kings, has claimed ten wickets in 13 matches with a cheap economy of 7.82.

Dayal, playing his debut IPL season with the Gujarat Titans, has impressed with his accuracy apart from his pace. The former KKR captain said, "He (Yash Dayal) has been a terrific find. He has been able to move the ball both ways with the new ball, and I enjoy that about him."

Last but not least, Mohsin has been a revelation in this IPL with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He has 13 wickets from eight games, catching everyone's attention.

"He (Mohsin Khan) got picked late in the tournament, but he is making sure when he bowls, the heavy ball that he bowls ... he has bowled some brilliant spells. He has consistently bowled at less than six runs an over, and he has been really impressive with his slower ball as well," said the 36-year-old batter.

Karthik also spoke at length about Sunrisers Hyderabad quick Umran Malik, who has broken the 150 kmph barrier match-after-match.

"One person (Umran Malik) has bowled 157 – that is some serious pace. Speed has become a major factor, and once they have got that, the other skills that are required to become a better bowler, they start working on, they start improving on it, and they become better bowlers. That's what makes the tournament so competitive and so beautiful to watch," concluded Karthik.
