Shikhar Dhawan has expressed his desire to play for India at the 2023 ODI World Cup. The tournament, originally slated to take place between February and March next year, will now commence sometime in October 2023 due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dhawan focusing on fitness at top level

The Indian opening batter recently stated that his main focus right now is to play the 2023 ODI World Cup. The cricketer added that he wants to play as many matches for India in order to remain fit for the tournament. He said:

“I make sure that if I keep my fitness at the top level and keep doing the work, whether it is focusing on skill work or fitness regime, and we are also looking forward to the World Cup, which keeps driving me for more.

I feel grateful that my hard work and dedication have made me capable of this, and it is my love for sports and dedication to the game that keeps me focused.”

Dhawan recently played the three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe. As an opener, the left-hander charted scores of 81*, 33 and 40 across the three matches.

Despite his prolific run with the bat, the cricketer was not selected for India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
