The BCCI hosted the Naman Awards in Hyderabad tonight to celebrate Indian cricket and its biggest ambassadors. As the host announced winners of different categories, spin all-rounder Axar Patel earned massive recognition as he won the best international debut for the year 2020-2021.

The Naman Awards serve as a platform to appreciate and reward players for their dedication, skill, and commitment to Indian cricket. However, for a couple of years, the event couldn't take place due to Covid pandemic restrictions and a hectic international schedule.

Regardless, this year, the BCCI managed to sneak a window owing to the home Test series against England. Since the senior team was present in Hyderabad for the first Test, the BCCI hosted the event in the city to ensure that everybody got to attend.

Meanwhile, Axar Patel gained recognition for his extraordinary impact on home turf in the whites. The spin all-rounder won the award for best international Test debut for the year 2020-2021.

Axar made his debut in red-ball cricket in 2021 and clipped 36 wickets in a mere 10 innings, including 5 five-wicket hauls and 1 ten-wicket haul.

His best figures include 6/38 against England in Ahmedabad. Not only that, Patel's economy stayed as low as 2.11 throughout the year. Needless to say, the all-rounder fully deserved the recognition.

Having said that, the appreciation at the annual BCCI awards comes at a time when Axar Patel is gearing up for a pivotal Test series against England. The spinner's track record against the English side is staggering. Moreover, his impact on spin-friendly tracks is unmatched.

Thus, the selection committee added Axar Patel to the final squad despite the existence of three full-time spinners, Ashwin, Kuldeep, and Jadeja.

Regardless, the Naman award will only fuel Axar Patel's motivation as he gears up for the big Test series, which could further establish his sheer dominance at home.
