Ahead of a fresh new summer, Cricket Australia and ASICS have unveiled a subtle yet significant evolution of the national teams' playing uniforms for the 2025-26 season. The most prominent new feature is a giant red 'W' adorning the chest of all kits, signifying a new four-year sponsorship with Westpac.

Beyond this, the update is distinguished by refined details and a powerful cultural shift, moving celebrated indigenous artwork to a more prominent position on the shoulders of the shirts.

The Significance Of The New Kit

The giant 'W' is perhaps the most dominant change that anyone could notice on the jersey after the 2024/25 version. Speaking of this inclusion, renowned Aboriginal artist Aunty Fiona Clarke has updated her signature Walkabout Wickets artwork for the new kit. Titled 'Land & Sea', the design continues the tribute to Australia's first-ever touring cricket team, the 1868 Aboriginal XI.

"I am both honoured and proud to have created the artwork for the players' uniforms. It's powerful to see today's players carry the story of the first Aboriginal XI Cricket Walkabout team with them. This artwork is about more than a shirt design, it's about honouring those who came before us," Fiona said.

The relocation of the Indigenous artwork from the side panels to the shoulders was a decision informed by science. Heat mapping from the ASICS Institute of Sport Sciences indicated that the brand's 'acti-breeze' technology performed most efficiently on the sides, working alongside an ergonomic underarm mesh panel for better movement.

Significantly, Australia's new ODI kit has drawn inspiration from a period of Aussie domination when the likes of Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist were ruling over other nations in 2003.

The Test Whites Update

Other subtle changes define the Test whites, where green piping has been replaced by yellow around the collar, complemented by yellow snap buttons, while sleeve piping has been removed entirely.

In the white-ball kits, the 'Land & Sea' artwork provides a striking contrast against the Australian Gold colour of the ODI uniform.

The T20 Kit Gets A Nostalgic Nod

The men's T20 shirt features a grandpa collar, while the women's version retains a traditional fold-over collar, a distinction first established in 2023.

The short-format kits also feature a nostalgic nod, with side panels inspired by the uniform worn by Ricky Ponting's undefeated 2003 ODI World Cup-winning squad, a design expected to be worn again at the 2027 tournament in South Africa.
