Australia Women's team booked their semi-finals spot in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 after securing a nine-wicket victory over Barbados Women on Sunday (31 July).

Invited to bat first, Barbados Women had a stable start with skipper Hayley Matthews stamping authority with her trademark shots. However, the fourth over witnessed Matthews getting dismissed for 18 off 13 balls to Darcie Brown. 

The top scorer for Barbados in the tournament opener, Kycia Knight (9) failed to clear the fence, and the rest of Barbados' batting lineup fell like a pack of cards, as the team was dismissed for a score of 64. For Aussies, King was the pick of the bowlers with four scalps, followed by McGrath with three wickets.


Healy and Lanning seal the game for Australia

Chasing a modest total,  Aussies lost the opener Beth Mooney for 2 off 6 to Shanika Bruce. However, it was a golden chance for another opener, Alyssa Healy to shine and get back to proper form. 

Healy remained unbeaten on 23, laced with four fours, while the skipper Meg Lanning continued her glorious form to contribute 36* off 21, with five fours and two sixes. The chase was completed in 8.1 overs, and Australia reached the semi-finals of the event with two wins. 

In their last league fixture, Australia Women will face Pakistan on Wednesday (August 3).
