India's stand-in captain KL Rahul has revealed that Rohit Sharma decided to skip India's last Asia Cup fixture owing to tough conditions in the UAE.

India are currently involved in a dead rubber against Afghanistan in Dubai and have made three changes to their side as opposed to the last fixture.

The likes of Axar Patel, Dinesh Karthik and Deepak Chahar are part of the XI in this game. It is evident that Patel and Chahar have forayed into the Indian squad in place of injured Ravindra Jadeja and Avesh Khan respectively.

Coming back to Sharma's absence, Rahul thinks the regular captain arrived at this decision, while keeping in mind an all-important T20I World Cup 2022 slated to be played next month.

Furthermore, India will play a home T20I series against Australia and South Africa ahead of the show-piece event as well.

"Rohit just wants to take a break considering the tough conditions here, and the World Cup ahead. We're trying to finalise the roles that each individual will play in the World Cup," Rahul told at the toss.

With a fresh opening pair in the form of Virat Kohli and Rahul, India are off to a a flying start against Afghanistan.

The duo have added 95 runs in 11 overs, with Kohli hitting his 33rd T20I fifty. It will certainly be invaluable for the Men in Blue to post a good total, given the pitch getting better for the team chasing down the scores at Dubai.
