Up-and-coming Indian batting star Shubman Gill shone in his County debut for Glamorgan County Cricket Club (GCCC). Coming in to bat at number three, Gill scored a flamboyant 92 against Worcestershire in Glamorgan's County Championship Division two tie at Sophia Gardens.

Gill missed his maiden County ton by eight runs after falling victim to Ed Barnard. The Indian opener's innings lasted 148 balls and included eight fours and a solitary six.

Speaking to Glamorgan Cricket, Gill, who turns 23 today, opened up about his knock and experience of playing in English conditions.

“I liked it, it was a great experience for me to come here and play county cricket and spend some time in the middle so it was a good outing for me today,

"I was quite disappointed, especially to be out on 92, but I was pretty satisfied with my own performance because I wanted to spend some time out in the middle and I got that."

Next big thing in Indian cricket

Gill, in his short cricketing career, has won the ICC Under-19 World Cup, an Indian Premier League title, and the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He is coming off red-hot form, playing ODIs against West Indies and Zimbabwe and winning player of the series on both tours.

He was also a vital cog of the champions Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022, accumulating 483 runs.

The Punjab-born has already played 35 First-Class and 64 List-A games for his state, amassing 5,640 runs with 14 centuries and 29 half-centuries across both formats.
