Western Australia has confirmed that Aussie international all rounder Ashton Turner will be leading the side against Victoria in the One Day Cup Opener. Turner was named as the stand in skipper after Mitchell Marsh was named as the captain of the first class and One Day teams or this summer.

The game will be played on Sunday at the Citi Power Centre (also known at the Junction Oval) in St Kilda. Victoria will be fresh off a victory in their first game on Friday over New South Wales, with the WA now looking to stop the Victorians from winning two on the trot and getting a strong start in the tournament.

Various Aussie international players feature in the squad

Turner will be in charge of a squad that has plenty of players who have played for Australia in one format or the other. Turner himself, Cameron Bancroft, Jason Behrendorff, Josh Philippe, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye and D'Arcy Short will all be expected to bring in their international experience in helping WA make a strong start in the tournament.

Players like Philippe and Richardson will be hoping to perform well in the tournament to make their way into the reckoning for the national side again in the upcoming summer.
