Ambati Rayudu decides to take a bow after a illustrious career in IPL

Ambati Rayudu has decided to hang up his boots from IPL cricket after an illustrious IPL career. Rayudu is one of the most successful players in IPL history, having been part of the title-winning sides on five occasions. He won three IPL titles with Mumbai Indians in 2013, 2015, and 2017 and two with Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and 2021.

The right-handed batsman took a sudden retirement from all forms of cricket in July 2019 after Vijay Shankar joined the World Cup team. However, Rayudu came out of retirement later that year in August and confessed that the decision was made in rapidity. He continued to play IPL and domestic cricket after that.

On Thursday, Chennai Super Kings lost to Mumbai Indians, which ended their hopes to go ahead in the IPL playoffs, and today he confirmed that he would be bringing the curtain down on his 13-year long IPL career after the season ends.

"I am happy to announce that this will be my last IPL. I have had a wonderful time playing it and being a part of 2 great teams for 13 years. Would love to sincerely thank Mumbai Indians and CSK for the wonderful journey." he tweeted. However, minutes after the tweet was published the player surprisingly deleted it from his Twitter handle.

Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of the Chennai Super Kings has also spoken on the tweet and feels this is just a physiological effect and feels the player has a lot of cricket left in him. The player has been trolled for his actions on the platform by a plethora of fans who do not seem too amused,

When Chennai Super Kings won their fourth title last year, Ambati Rayudu played a vital role in the yellow army's success. Rayudu scored 257 runs in 13 innings for CSK in 2021 at a strike rate of 151.17. Rayudu's strike rate of 151.17 was seventh best last year among batters who had scored 100 or more runs in IPL 14 and best among his mates in CSK. He was also the highest run scorer for CSK's title-winning campaign in 2018, with 602 runs.

Before that, he was also an essential part of the most successful team in IPL history, the Mumbai Indians. He is still the third highest run scorer for the Men in Blue, only behind Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard.

Ambati Rayudu scored 4186 runs so far in his IPL career, from which 2416 runs came for Mumbai Indians between 2010 and 2017 and 1771 runs for Chennai Super Kings between 2018 and 2022. Overall, he has an average of 29.1, 164 sixes and 22 fifties under his name in 172 innings.

Rayudu's performance constantly improved with each passing season. A batter like him who batted everywhere in the order and let his ball striking do the talking is rare in the circuit. He is an incredible asset who helped his team qualify for the playoffs ten times out of 13 seasons.
