In a massive setback for Australia, veteran spinner Adam Zampa and swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis are set to miss the first ODI of the upcoming three-match series against India. Led by Mitchell Marsh, Australia will cross swords with India in the series opener in Perth on October 19; but unfortunately, Zampa and Inglis, who were initially supposed to play, won't be a part of the game.

Why Adam Zampa and Josh Inglis won't play AUS vs IND 1st ODI

As revealed by Cricket.com.au, Adam Zampa has made himself unavailable for the first ODI against India due to family reasons. While he will miss the Perth encounter, Zampa is expected to be available for the remainder of the series. Left-arm off-spinner Matthew Kuhnemann has linked up with the team and might enter the Australian playing XI in Perth in Zampa's absence.

On the other hand, Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the first ODI against India due to a calf strain that also kept him out of the recently concluded New Zealand tour. Alex Carey has also been released from the squad for the first ODI to feature in South Australia's second round Sheffield Shield match against Queensland. In such a scenario, the hosts have roped in Josh Philippe, who is set to play as Australia's wicketkeeper in the first ODI against India in Inglis and Carey's unavailability.

How can Inglis and Zampa's unavailability affect Australia in 1st ODI vs India?

Adam Zampa has been a match-winner for Australia, scalping 192 wickets in 114 ODIs. He has an excellent record against India, having bagged 37 wickets in just 24 innings. So, Australia will be without their best spinner, who has performed against India in the past. This will certainly affect their performance in the middle overs, where Zampa usually operates. Additionally, with Zampa not playing, they will rely on Kuhnemann, who has played just four ODIs.

On the other hand, Josh Inglis was supposed to play as Australia's X-factor against India. In 29 ODI innings, the explosive right-handed batter has amassed 766 runs at a blistering strike rate of 106.4. As he is excellent against both pace and spin, Australia will miss him against India's formidable bowling lineup. The absence of these two key players has not only concerned Australia but also left the playing XI wide open. So, it will be interesting to see which combination the hosts prefer as they gear up to take on India in the first ODI in Perth.
