Zampa and Carey likely to play 2nd ODI vs IND [Source: AFP]
In a major boost for the Australian team, Adam Zampa and Alex Carey have rejoined the ODI squad for the second match of the ongoing series against India. Adam Zampa missed the first ODI in Perth due to family reasons, while Carey was released from the team to represent South Australia in the Sheffield Shield as a part of his preparations for the Ashes.
Zampa returns, Philippe to make way for Carey
Matthew Kuhnemann, who bowled brilliantly in the Perth ODI, has left the squad and will rejoin the side before the first T20I in Canberra. While Adam Zampa will come in for the left-arm off-spinner, Josh Philippe is likely to make way for Alex Carey.
Carey is Australia's first-choice wicketkeeper in ODIs, having slammed 2212 runs at a healthy average of 35.7 and a strike rate of 91.3. The left-handed batter has expertise in bailing the team out of trouble with valiant knocks in the lower middle order. So, with Carey returning, Australia will likely exclude Josh Philippe despite the latter's match-winning cameo of 37 runs in the Perth ODI.
Josh Inglis to be available for 3rd ODI
Meanwhile, swashbuckling batter Josh Inglis will miss the second ODI amid his recovery from a calf injury. However, as revealed by Cricket.com.au, Inglis could make his ODI return in the final match of the series in Sydney. In 33 ODIs, Inglis has scored 766 runs at an average of 29.5 and a strike rate of 106.4.
Ben Dwarshuis ruled out of IND vs AUS ODIs
Left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis has been ruled out of the ODI series against India due to a left calf injury. However, as Cricket.com.au stated, the speedster remains hopeful of making a comeback for the T20I series.
