Virat Kohli celebrated his 35th birthday in grand style as he registered a magnificent century to not only equal the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s historic record of 49 ODI centuries but also crush South Africa for a humiliating defeat. The Proteas slumped to their worst defeat in ODI cricket losing by a colossal margin of 243 runs thanks to a comprehensive all-round effort by Rohit Sharma and his men.

During his interaction with JioCinema, De Villers reflected on Kohli’s early days with RCB and disclosed three little-known secrets about the batting stalwart. The former Proteas batsman highlighted Kohli’s love for chocolates most notably, dark chocolates. Despite being fond of dark chocolates, Kohli does well to resist his temptation and instead focuses on training his mind mentally. He further added that he uses dark chocolate as a means to prepare himself for his upcoming game.

"Virat (Kohli) loves dark chocolate. Dark chocolates are his dark secret, always has a piece somewhere. I think that’s how he trains mentally. That’s his mental toughness. He looks at dark chocolates and tells himself, you are not allowed to take it. That’s his mental preparation before a game."

De Villers further expresses that Kohli has a soft corner and feels that he was fortunate enough to explore the other side of his personality. He strongly feels that the presence of his wife and his daughter has eased him into a humble person.

"The other thing about Virat is that he’s such a softie. When he’s not playing, there’s a soft gentleman who loves his alone time. He loves to be in his room. Obviously with his wife and his little one. There’s a soft side to Virat that not many people have seen before, and I’ve been lucky to be a part of it."

Following India’s historic win at the Eden Gardens, the Men in Blue will march to Bangalore to play their last league match against the Netherlands on November 12 before making their way into the semi-final phase of the tournament.
