Looks like Naseem Shah isn’t the only Shah making headlines in Pakistan cricket. His younger brother, Ubaid Shah, is grabbing attention in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, and he’s doing it with a bang.
Ubaid Shah Shines with 8-Wicket Haul for Lahore Whites in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy
On the opening day of the fifth round, Ubaid Shah ran riot against Larkana, taking a brilliant 8-wicket haul (8-79) at the Marghzar Cricket Ground in Islamabad. It’s his first-ever five-wicket haul in first-class cricket, and he couldn’t have asked for a better way to announce himself.
Bowling 19.4 overs for 79 runs, Ubaid tore through Larkana’s lineup, helping Lahore Whites dismiss them for just 202 in 58.4 overs. He had a dream spell, picking up the first four wickets and then wrapping up the tail.
It was a complete performance from the young pacer, who’s making it clear he’s got serious talent. Faraz Aziz top-scored for Larkana with 36, while Mohsin Raza and Akbar Ur Rehman managed 35 each, but none could handle Ubaid’s fire.
Lahore Whites Off to a Strong Start
At Stumps, Lahore Whites looked comfortable, sitting at 121/1. Imran Doger fell early for a duck, but Gohar Hafeez Butt and Attyab Ahmad took control. Gohar is unbeaten on 50, while Attyab is cruising on 61. The duo looks set to post a big total as they resume on Day 2, with Lahore Whites in a strong position to take a solid lead.
Ubaid Shah’s Rise Through the Ranks
Ubaid has been one to watch since his Pakistan U19 days. He played a key role in taking the team to the semi-finals in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup in South Africa. He was so impressive that he made it into the ICC team of the tournament, picking up 18 wickets at an average of under 14. His performances have been consistent, and if he keeps this up, it might not be long before he’s knocking on the doors of the national team.
With Ubaid’s recent show-stopper, fans can start dreaming of the Shah brothers tearing it up together. If Ubaid continues this form, a national call-up might just be around the corner. For now, he’s left fans with something to talk about, and there’s no doubt he’s one to keep an eye on.
