A multi-nation tournament provides opportunities for local players to bowl to top-class international cricketers in net/training sessions.
With the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 taking place in India, several domestic and age-group players could find themselves rubbing shoulders with international players, much like Hyderabad's Nishanth Saranu.
Saranu, who plays for the Hyderabad Under-19 side, was an instant hit in Pakistan camp on Thursday, while bowling in their maiden World Cup net session at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Led by Babar Azam, Pakistan landed in India on Wednesday evening amidst much fanfare, with several players opting to attend an optional training session today morning, where Saranu impressed one-and-all with his bowling. The six-foot-nine-inch pacer bowled to Pakistan tail-enders after Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi got over from their spells.
Speaking to PTI, Saranu stated how Pakistan bowling coach and former South African speedster Morne Morkel provided tips to the young bowler.
Here's what Saranu said
"I currently can bowl up to 125-130 kmph. Morne (Morkel) sir asked me to increase my pace. He also inquired if I would be available to bowl at the nets of IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants."
Saranu stated that his immediate focus is on playing for Hyderabad's First-Class side as soon as possible.
"My aim is to have a career in both white and red ball cricket. So, the immediate goal is to represent Hyderabad at the first-class level."
The Hyderabad-born also featured as net bowler during New Zealand's ODI tour of India earlier this year.
Pakistan will play their first warm-up against New Zealand on October 29th, before facing Australia on October 3.
