The final of the WTC cycle 2021-23 cycle is knocking at the doors. India and Australia will be battling to be the best in the Test. This will be an important match for Australia as they will look to prove their supremacy once more in the purest format of the game.

This all-important final will start on Wednesday, the 7th of June, and will be played at the Kennington Oval in England, popularly the iconic Oval. Talking about the importance of the game, it will be a particularly important clash for David Warner.

He has been recently under the radar of the critics for his poor form, and just before The Ashes, it will be a perfect ground for the veteran Australian opener to prove his worth. Furthermore, Warner was recently heard talking about his retirement plans from Test cricket, and he will be eager to sign off on a high note. So the WTC 2023 final will be a great stage for the build-up to the last dance for 'The Bull'.

Let us take a look at the performance of Warner at the Oval.

David Warner's record at the Oval

The Australian opener has played three matches at the Kennington Oval. In these three matches, he has batted in five innings and has scored 119 runs in them at an average of just 23.80. However, out of these 119 runs, 85 came in one inning; therefore, in the other four innings, he has just 34 runs at an average of 8.50.

Warner played his first Test at the Oval in 2013, scoring 6 and 12 in the two innings, respectively.

Warner vs different types of bowling at Oval

In the five innings that Warner has played at the Oval, pacers have dismissed him four times. James Anderson has picked him twice, while Archer and Broad have got his wicket once, respectively.

Once, he was dismissed by the off-spinner Moeen Ali, and that too in the innings where he scored 85 off 131 balls.

So these stats show us that the wicket at the Oval proves to be testing for Warner in the initial stages. Hence, Mohammed Shami could form a beneficial match-up for India against him due to the modes of his dismissal so far.

Warner vs India

David Warner has played 20 matches against India, in which he has batted in 37 innings. In these matches, Warner has scored 1174 runs at an average of 31.73 with four hundreds and three fifties.

How Will Warner perform in the WTC Final?

Looking at the records of David Warner at the Oval and the bowling attack of the Indian team, it looks like the WTC final might not go in Warner's way. Besides, his recent batting form will also be a big concern for the Australian team. But when we are talking about the pedigree of Warner, we should write him off, especially in a big match like the WTC final.
