The upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is set to take place on November 6 in Delhi. This game carries significant implications for Sri Lanka, as they are in a precarious situation, needing a victory to keep their tournament hopes alive. On the other hand, Bangladesh's campaign has taken a dismal turn, as they have suffered six consecutive defeats and are already eliminated from the competition.

Sri Lanka's World Cup journey has been less than stellar, and their recent loss to India, where they were bowled out for just 55 while chasing 358, has cast a shadow over their chances. The absence of key players due to injuries has further complicated their campaign. To make matters worse, their Net Run Rate (NRR) has taken a hit after the heavy defeat against India, raising the stakes for their clash against Bangladesh.

In contrast, Bangladesh's campaign has been marred by continuous losses following their lone victory against Afghanistan. Lopsided batting performances and frequent changes in the playing XI have contributed to their string of significant losses. Both teams are in a must-win situation in their quest for respectability and to be competitive in the ICC World Cup 2023.

A Close Look at the World Cup Form of Sri Lanka & Bangladesh

Bangladesh had a promising start to the tournament with a victory over Afghanistan, but since then, they've faced a string of losses, putting them on a six-match losing streak. Their batting lineup has struggled to consistently score runs, and the bowlers have found it challenging to take wickets at crucial moments, leaving them vulnerable to pressure from their opponents.

In their recent game against Pakistan, Tanzid Hasan was dismissed for a duck early in the innings. While Litton Das, Mahmudullah, and Shakib Al Hasan managed to contribute to the score, the rest of the batters failed to build significant partnerships. The bowling department relied heavily on Mehidy Hasan, who claimed three wickets, but it wasn't sufficient as the opposition adapted to the conditions and formed strong partnerships.

Sri Lanka's qualification hopes in the tournament still remain uncertain, and their upcoming game is a must-win situation for them. So far, they've had a rather average season, securing just two wins. Their previous match against India was a disappointment, particularly for their batting order. While their bowlers struggled to contain the opposition's runs, Dilshan Madushanka stood out by taking a five-wicket haul.

In the chase, Sri Lanka's woes were apparent as five of their batters, including their openers Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne, were dismissed for ducks. Subsequent dismissals saw Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and Charith Asalanka fall with single-digit scores. Angelo Mathews showcased glimpses of good shots but couldn't convert them into a substantial score. Towards the end of the innings, Maheesh Theekshana and Kasun Rajitha managed to add a few boundaries and ended up as the top scorers in the team.

Conclusion

None of the other bowlers could make timely breakthroughs. Bangladesh has much to address before their upcoming match, aiming to conclude the tournament on a positive note with a win. To bolster Sri Lank’s chances of making it to the semi-finals, they not only needs a victory in the upcoming match but also must win by a significant margin to improve their Net Run Rate (NRR). The qualification equation remains complex, and they'll be looking to give it their all in this crucial game.
