The 2023 World Cup has reached its cue end with a few matches left in the round robin stage. Game no. 38 will be held between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi and the play is set to commence at 2:00 PM IST.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are two such nations that have failed to showcase their best potential in the World Cup. The latter incurred three losses and then followed it by victories against Netherlands and England. The triumph against the Three Lions was a fascinating one but they failed to continue with the momentum. The Lions lost their last two games with the latest being a replication of a humiliation from the Asia Cup 2023 Final. Indian bowlers ran through their batting order and bundled them for mere 55.

Meanwhile, Bangaladesh have won just a single game from seven matches. They won their first game against Afghanistan but failed to win the remainder. Currently they are on a six match losing streak and the latest came against Pakistan. Although their semi-final hopes are over, they have a lot to play for. The Tigers will aim to finish within the top seven in the points table. Only then Bangladesh will be able to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Now, let us have a quick look at Bangladesh's predicted XI against Sri Lanka.

Openers: Litton Das and Tanzid Tamim

Litton Das has been one of the few positives for Bangladesh with the bat. He wasn't in the very best of his form before the mega-event. But when it mattered the most, Litton gave the starts that Bangladesh would have waited for. The top order batter scored 225 runs from seven matches and is their highest run-scorer of the World Cup. He scored a fifty against England and India and even scored a forty-plus against Pakistan in their recent clash.

Litton's partner, young Tanzid Hasan Tamim has been pretty inconsistent with the bat. He scored a fifty against India in a pressure game and that's the only time when he shone bright with the bat during the World Cup.

Middle Order: Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Mushfiqur Rahim

Towhid Hridoy failed to shine in the last game and therefore Bangladesh may bench him. The management have been inconsistent with their playing XI and hence this could be done.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim are likely to bat in the middle order. The former has been their no. 3 in the World Cup but failed to play like a no. 3 batter. He lost his form during the bonanza event and will look to bounce back. Rahim, on the other hand, has been the lone warrior on various occasions in the tournament. He displayed some impactful knocks but consistency is something that has lacked.

All-rounders: Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mehidy Hasan Miraz

Bangladesh consists of distinctive all-rounders in their ranks. Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been batting at various positions in the batting order and will be featuring against Sri Lanka. They are also key assets with the ball in hand and can bowl full quota.

But an all-rounder that has been outstanding for the Tigers is Mahmudullah Riyad. He scored a ton against South Africa, followed it up with some great fifties and has been the most consistent of the Bangladeshi lot. Unfortunately most of his food numbers came in a losing cause of the team.

Bowlers: Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman

Bangladesh will look to get some win and feature in the top seven to ensure a place in the 2025 Champions Trophy. They may bring in Mahedi Hasan and add some more spinning options in Delhi. He bagged six wickets in two matches that includes a four-for against England.

The three pacers should be Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam. They cover most of their bases and is their best pace attack. It's a different case that they haven't been at their best and failed to get the most of the expectations.
