It's a doubleheader Saturday in the 2023 World Cup and match 36 will feature the Ashes rivalry masked in ODI colors. Australia and England are scheduled to square off in the massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM IST.

Australia began the campaign with two losses to India and South Africa. However, they have won every game since then, accumulating eight points from six games with victories over Sri Lanka, Pakistan, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.

The Australians dealt a severe setback as Glenn Maxwell sustained a concussion while playing golf and Mitchell Marsh set to fly  home due to personal reasons.

England has been through an extremely difficult time in recent weeks. The defending champions were the first to be eliminated following their loss to India in Lucknow. They experienced only one win in the campaign thus far, which came against Bangladesh in their second game. The English team finds itself at the bottom of the points standings after five losses and one win. However, if they finish in the top seven, England will qualify for the Champions Trophy in 2025.

Can the Three Lions get back to winning ways against their arch-riivals? Let us have a look at their predicted XI against Australia.

Openers: Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow

England have nothing to gain now and could retain their top order. Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan should be opening the batting for them. It provides them a left and right hand combination and if the two play freely they could score runs thick and fast.

Middle Order: Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, and Jos Buttler

Joe Root has scored 175 runs from six innings and is the second best batter of England in the tournament after Malan. He racked two fifties earlier against New Zealand and Bangladesh. Root definitely has the composure to bat long and will be looking to do so against Australia.

Ben Stokes and Harry Brook have blown hot and cold in the competition. Although they haven't scored huge amount of runs compared to the individual tons we have got to witness in the World Cup.

Jos Buttler is another such candidate who has been a total failure with the bat in hand for England. He had an impressive average at the top of the order but sacrificing his spot for the teammates haven't really worked out well for the team. Buttler would hope to get back in form and play for the Champions Trophy qualification now.

All-rounders: Moeen Ali, Sam Curran and Chris Woakes.

Chris Woakes and David Willey should be the new ball pair for England in their upcoming match. Both of them possess the capability with the bat in hand and increase the depth in the batting for England. Willey, who announced his retirement after the marque event has been terrific with the ball in England's last few matches.

Moeen Ali could partner with Adil Rashid in the middle overs. But his primary role will be with the bat in hand. Ali can be used as a floater in the batting order.

Bowlers: Adil Rashid and Gus Atkinson.

This hasn't been the tournament for Mark Wood. It woon't come as a shocker if he is rested foor the upcoming game against Australia. Gus Atkinson could feature in the game against Australia and this change could turn out effective as well. The pacer was in good form with the ball during the Hundred for the Oval Invincibles.

Rashid should be their premier spinner and he has the most number of scalps by any English bowler in the World event. He has bagged eight wickets from six matches thus far.
