The 2023 World Cup has entered a crucial stage where teams are fighting for the top four spots. Match 29 of the league stage will see India square off against England in the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. The anticipated contest begins at 2:00 PM IST.

The defending champions haven't done justice to the champions tag this season. England have participated in five matches and lost four of them. Their only win came against Bangladesh in their second game of the competition.

The English side are coming off back-to-back defeats with the latest one being against Sri Lanka. Earlier, they were also drubbed by a lower ranked side, Afghanistan. This is a must win game for them to stay alive in the competition. From here they have to ensure a hundred percent win record.

On the other hand, the Indian contingent is in flying colours at the moment. They have won five out of their five games and have secured 10 points. They are second in the points tally just behind South Africa.

Their latest win came against New Zealand, a side that remained undefeated against the Asian Giants in the World Cup for nearly two decades. This is the first game that India will be playing in Chennai and let's have a quick look at how the Indian line-up may sound against England.

Openers: Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill

The Indian opening pair consists of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill and shall be. The same against England unless any mishaps. The Indian captain is their second-highest run-scorer in the mega event with 311 runs from five innings. The Hitman has been surreal with the bat and attacked the bowlers inside the first powerplay. He also notched up a century against Afghanistan earlier in the competition.

Rohit's partner, Gill has been modest with the bat in hand so far. He missed out a couple of games at the beginning of the tournament but came back strong with a fifty against Bangladesh. He also scored a brilliant ton against Australia just ahead of the World Cup.

Middle Order: Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav

Virat Kohli aka. 'The King' has been in top-notch form with the bat in hand. He averages 198 with the bat from his last couple of innings. He has tailored fifty or more runs on four out of five matches in the ongoing tourney. Having scored 354 runs from five innings, Kohli is the leading run-getter for India in the World Cup.

Shreyas Iyer got starts but failed to convert it into big numbers. He did score a fifty against Pakistan and will play a crucial role at the no. 4 position.

Iyer is followed by KL Rahul who is also keeping the stumps for India in the marquee event. Rahul was mesmerising against Australia in their curtain raiser in Chennai. He notched up a match-defining 97 and finished off a chase with a six. He got out only once in four innings thus far.

Suryakumar Yadav replaced Hardik Pandya in the line-up and will be an indispensable member of the side until the all-rounder returns. Surya is a pure batter and adds more strength to the middle order.

All-rounders: Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin

India may bring the pair of Ash and Jaddu together for the second time in the World Cup. The pitches in Lucknow could be spin favourable and Ashwin could make a return in the playing XI. Rohit Sharma did mention earlier that they could make tactical changes wherever necessary and this could be one.

Jadeja has been stellar with the white cherry and in the field. He was also good with the bat against New Zealand and stayed unbridled in the chase.

Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah

Indian bowling unit may seem some changes against England. Mohammed Shami made a return into the Indian playing XI against New Zealand and made a strong statement with the ball in hand. He claimed a fifer and made crucial breakthroughs in the game. Henceforth it is likely that Shami will retain his place.

If Ashwin comes in, Siraj may make way. That makes Jasprit Bumrah as the other pacer for India alongwith Shami. Bumrah is the current leading wicket-taker for India with 11 scalps from five matches and is one of a kind.

Moreover, when it comes to the spinners, Kuldeep Yadav is one of their best attacking options and can spin cob around the opposition batters. He has fetched eight wickets from five matches so far and scalps in each of the games.
