Ben Stokes is set to helm his English troops for the first time in India as the captain of his country. The dynamic all-rounder has twice been part of a travelling English group to India, once in late 2016 under Alastair Cook’s leadership and the other in early 2021 when Joe Root was in charge of the side.

As Stokes braces himself to introduce his ‘BazBall’ phenomenon to the fans in India through the upcoming five-match Test series, here at OneCricket, we take a look at his overall Test record as a batsman and as a bowler as a player in Indian conditions.

Ben Stokes' Test record in India

Stokes has played 16 Test matches against India so far in his 97-match career. Interestingly, the all-rounder has participated in nine of those matches in Indian conditions, spanning two different tours by the English cricket team.

The cricketer was part of England’s travelling group in late 2016 for a five-match Test series, and once again toured India in early 2021 for a four-match challenge. Unsurprisingly, the legendary all-rounder found his name in his team’s starting XI on all nine occasions, thus headlining his significance in England’s modern-day Test setup.

In his maiden Test innings in India as a batter, Stokes pummeled hosts’ spin-heavy attack with a scintillating 128 at Rajkot back in November 2016. After making 18 appearances with the bat on turning Indian surfaces, he averages over 32 with a ton and three additional fifty-plus scores to his name.
