Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer coped a nasty blow on his right wrist during a practice session on January 23, i.e., just a couple of days prior to his team’s opening Test match against England in Hyderabad. Fortunately for Indian cricket, Iyer soon made a return to bat following his injury scare, and currently looks on course to take field for his country on January 25 for the high-profile Test series.

Shreyas Iyer returns to bat after injury scare

During a Team India training session in Hyderabad on January 23, Shreyas Iyer got hit on his right wrist while taking throwdowns. The 29-year-old subsequently walked out of the nets and was seen applying ice pack.

Fortunately for Iyer and his well-wishers, the cricketer survived his brief injury scare and was spotted heading back into the nets for a fresh training session with the bat.

Shreyas Iyer continues to remain one of the most integral members of India’s Test setup. Batting in the middle-order, the right-hander averages nearly 40 after 12 Test appearances.

The cricketer did return with underwhelming scores in South Africa earlier this month, considering he managed to tally just 41 runs across two Test matches at a below-par average of 14.67.

However, Iyer is fresh off the heel of a splendid white-ball run with the bat, which included match-winning knocks in South Africa as well as his 500-plus run-tally from the 2023 World Cup in India last November.

Not long ago, Shreyas Iyer also expressed his desire of employing an aggressive brand of batting in Test cricket, by claiming that leaving deliveries bores him.
