In a shocking turn of events South Africa lost to Netherlands in their last Super 12 match and got eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. After a brilliant start to the tournament with two convincing victories against Bangladesh and India, things suddenly went southwards for the Proteas.

The Journey of South Africa

South Africa began their World Cup journey with a huge victory against Bangladesh. This gave a big boost to their Net Run Rate and they were considered as one of the teams in the Semi Finals.

In the very next match, they continued their form and defeated India solidifying their position in the group. A rain effected match to begin with and a loss against Pakistan, made their final match an important one. They just needed to win the last match to be in the semi, and the match being against Netherlands it was expected that South Africa will win.

But to everyones surprise, South Africa lost to the Dutch by 13 runs and once again justified their critics calling them 'the Chokers'.

Report Card of T20 World Cup 2022

Quinton de Kock- 6/10

Innings-Runs-124 Avg-31.00 SR-161.03

Quinton de Kock played two blinders at the beginning of the tournament. But as the tournament progressed he gradually lost his form and he failed to deliver in the matches that mattered the most.

Temba Bavuma- 2/10

Innings: 5 Runs: 70 Avg: 17.50 SR: 112.90

Bavuma's score of 36 against Pakistan was the only innings where he got a start. Barring that he has been miserable in the World Cup and it has probably went on to affect his mentality during leading the team.

Rilee Rossouw-6/10

Overs: 3 Runs Conceded: 21 Economy: 7.00 Wickets: 1 Avg: 21.00

Aiden Markram has one half-century in the tournament. If we leave out that innings then he has scored just 47 runs in 3 innings. He was also not given enough bowling to prove himself in the trade. So, it can be said the performances from Markram was below the expectation levels.

Heinrich Klaasen- 3/10

Innings: 2 Runs: 36 Avg: 18.00 SR: 133.33

Klaasen got to bat in only two matches. He looked decent in the middle but none of his knocks were impactful enough.

Tristan Stubbs- 1/10

Tristan Stubbs had a disappointing T20 World Cup to say the least. He failed to stand up to the expectations on him or the potential that he has.

Anrich Nortje- 8/10

David Miller- 6/10

Innings: 3 Runs: 78 Avg: 78.00 SR: 116.41

David Miller played a brilliant knock against India. But his scoring rate in the tournament has not been upto the mark. Yet, we can say that if not injured he might have helped the cause his team in more matches.

Keshav Maharaj- 5/10

Overs: 12.0 Runs Conceded: 89 Economy: 7.41 Wickets: 3 Avg: 29.66

Keshav Maharaj did not get enough chances with the bat and with the ball he was just about average in the tournament.
