As England registered a victory over Sri Lanka in their last match of the Super 12 in ICC T20 World Cup 2022, the defending champions, Australia bowed out of the tournament.

Australia entered the tournament with a strong squad on paper, but injuries and unavailability of players before the tournament saw a lot of confusion in the team. The players looked like they did not have the right idea about their job within the team equation.

The Journey

Australia walked into the tournaments as one of the favourites, but in the very first match they got a shock. They suffered a heavy defeat against their trans-Tasmanian rivals, New Zealand.

A loss of 89 runs hampered their Net Run Rate to such an extent that it was impossible for them to recover the same even with 3 wins in the next 4 matches. However, a rain abandoned match also played a role in their early exit.

Report Card

David Warner- 1.5/10

Innings- 4 Runs- 44 Avg- 11.00 SR- 107.31

At the beginning of the tournament, David Warner was a man on which Australia was depending heavily. But throughout the tournament, Warner failed to deliver up to the expectations and give proper solid starts to the Australian team.

Aaron Finch- 4.5/10

Innings- 3 Runs- 107 Avg- 53.50 SR- 110.30

Aaron Finch was pitched as the weakest link in the Australian batting order before the start of the tournament. Though he did not score at a very quick rate, Finch was decent with the bat during the tournament.

Mitchell Marsh- 5.5/10

Innings- 4 Runs- 106 Avg- 26.50 SR- 130.86

Mitchell Marsh was the man who played a major role in Australia's title winning effort in 2021. The same was expected of his batting this year, but this time around he failed to live up to the expectations. Also, the fact that he could not contribute with the ball affected Australia's interests in the tournament.

Marcus Stoinis- 6.5/10

Innings: 4 Runs: 126 Avg: 42.00 SR: 161.53

Overs: 9 Runs Conceded: 87 Economy: 9.66 Wickets: 1 Avg: 87.00

Marcus Stoinis had a great time with the bat. He was the highest run scorer for Australia in the tournament. But he earned a few negative ratings because of his sub par bowling performance. Not only, did he fail to pick up wickets he was pretty expensive with the ball in hand.

Glenn Maxwell-7/10

Innings: 4 Runs: 118 Avg: 39.33 SR: 161.64

Overs: 3.1 Runs Conceded: 19 Economy: 6.00 Wickets: 3 Avg: 6.33

Glenn Maxwell had a decent World Cup. He played some good cameos throughout the tournament, but in the last match against Afghanistan he was at his best. Maxwell was also above average with ball in hand.

Matthew Wade- 1/10

Innings: 3 Runs: 15 Avg: 7.50 SR: 100.00

Matthew was expected to the wonders he did in the last edition. But he was unable to grab the opportunities that he got during the tournament and one can call it was a sub par World Cup for Wade.

Pat Cummins- 1.5/10

Innings: 2 Runs: 21 Avg: 10.50 SR: 105.00

Overs: 16 Runs Conceded: 132 Economy: 8.25 Wickets: 3 Avg: 44.00

Pat Cummins have had a below average World Cup for his likings. He was neither able to pick up wickets nor contain the opposition as his team would have liked him. Also, Cummins failed to contribute with the bat in hand.

Tim David- 2/10

Innings: 2 Runs: 26 Avg: 26.00 SR: 144.44

There was a lot of hype around Tim David coming into the World Cup. But one can say that he failed to deliver as per expectations in the tournament.

Adam Zampa- 7/10

Overs: 12 Runs Conceded: 80 Economy: 6.66 Wickets: 5 Avg: 16.00

Adam Zampa played his part in the middle overs of Australian bowling. He was economical and picked up wickets as well.

Josh Hazlewood- 5/10

Overs: 15 Runs Conceded: 124 Economy: 8.26 Wickets: 5 Avg: 24.80

Josh Hazlewood was believed to be the leader of the pack for the Australian bowling line up ahead of the tournament. But his performances were way below what he could have delivered.

Mitchell Starc- 4/10

Overs: 12 Runs Conceded: 102 Economy: 8.50 Wickets: 3 Avg: 34.00

Mitchell Starc was hot and cold in the tournament. He bowled a couple of good spells, but otherwise he was dull in the tournament.

Ashton Agar- 3/10

Overs: Runs Conceded: 25 Economy: 6.25 Wickets: 1 Avg: 25.00

Agar played only one match in the tournament. He was decent with the ball in hand but the team did not give him any further chances.

Kane Richardson- 1/10

Overs: 4 Runs Conceded: 48 Economy: 12.00 Wickets: 1 Avg: 48.00

Kane Richardson played only one match and his performance as a bowler in the match was subpar.

Cameron Green-1/10

Innings: 1 Runs: 3 Avg: 3 SR: 150.00

Overs: 2 Runs Conceded: 13 Economy: 6.50 Wickets: 0 Avg: -

Cameron Green played only in the last match of the tournament. He failed with the bat and with the ball in hand his performance was about par.
