The Sunrisers Hyderabad has been one of the most underperforming teams in the Indian Premier League. So far, they have won the title once in 2016, but since then, chaos over management, failure to retain a core, and ending up with imbalanced squads have been the problem. 

However, before IPL 2024, the management worked out their strategies and recruited the perfect players for specific roles. The squad looks balanced ahead of the tournament. A deeper analysis will give us an idea of how far they can go in the tournament.

Batters: Abdul Samad, Aiden Markram, Rahul Tripathi, Glenn Phillips, Heinrich Klaasen, Mayank Agarwal, Anmolpreet Singh, Upendra Yadav, Travis Head.

Strong overseas recruits

Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, Glenn Phillips, Marco Jansen and Fazalhaq Farooqi were already in the Sunrisers squad, giving their overseas core a solid look. The SRH management has further strengthened this department by including Travis Head and Pat Cummins. The team now has great depth, variety and flexibility in their overseas department. They will have the luxury of using the overseas players as needed and finding the perfect replacements if any of them get injured. 

Variety and depth in the all-round section

The all-rounder section of the SRH for IPL 2024 seems to have great depth. This department has a great variety of spinners, pacers, top-order batters and good finishers. The depth in the all-rounder section will allow SRH to modify their line-up as per the playing conditions and the situation of the match. 

Power and consistency in the middle-order

With Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen in the middle-order, there is no lack of power for SRH. Besides, Markram and Klaasen have been in brilliant touch with the bat over the past 10-12 months. These two might be able to turn any game with their composed approach and extraordinary finishing abilities.

Lack of efficient death-over bowlers

The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pat Cummins and T Natarajan will be bowling the death overs for SRH. All three of these bowlers are experienced at the highest stage. But Cummins is not a regular death-over bowler, and Bhuvi and Natarajan have not been in the best of forms in recent times. Thus, death over bowling might be a problem for SRH in the tournament. They might have to adjust with bowlers like Wanindu Hasarnaga and Jaydev Unadkat in the death overs during the tournament. 

Lack of experience amongst the Indian batters

Rahul Tripathi, Abhishek Sharma, Mayank Agarwal and Abdul Samad will be the important Indian batters for SRH in the tournament. Amongst these, barring Mayank Agarwal, the others are not too experienced. Though Tripathi might be a good player for them, his inconsistency is a concern. Thus, in crunch situations, the Indian recruits might succumb under pressure.

As a skipper, Pat Cummins is going through a golden phase. He has been superbly succesful as the Australian skipper. Now, it is a chance to prove himself as a leader in the Indian Premier League. Given Cummins' leadership abilities, the SRH management will hope to win their second IPL title. 


Threat for SRH in IPL 2024

Chopping and changing with core

Due to a lack of success in the recent editions, the SRH management has often let go of many of their players during the auction and replaced them with newer recruits. As a result, many players are unfamiliar with the team culture, so there might be a lack of coordination in the team under pressure.

Prediction for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024

The Sunrisers look like a very well balanced team ahead of IPL 2024. They seem to have covered most of their bases. The expectations on SRH this year will be high. They should at least be a part of the top four, even if the 'Orange Army' make it to the summit clash of the tournament, that will not be a big surprise.
