Gujarat Titans reached unprecedented heights in their maiden IPL appearance, clinching the title under Hardik Pandya's leadership in 2022. Although they qualified for the final once again in 2023, they were far from their best in Shubman Gill's tenure last season.

So, ahead of the IPL 2025, GT tweaked their combination significantly, signing some impactful players for the tournament. With the marquee nearing, here's an in-depth analysis to find their probable batting order.

Openers: Jos Buttler, Shubman Gill

(Stats of Buttler and Gill as opener in IPL)

  • As evidenced by the above stats, Buttler and Gill have been prolific performers as openers in the IPL.
  • While Gill has a knack for converting his starts into significant scores, Buttler's ability to capitalise on the powerplay makes him a genuine threat to the opposition.
  • Thus, these two players can mix caution with aggression, making a formidable opening pair for the 2022 edition champions.

Number 3: Sai Sudharsan

(B Sai Sudharsan at number 3 in IPL)

  • As shown in the above table, B Sai Sudharsan has been Gujarat Titans' Mr consistent with the bat at number three.
  • Be it his blistering unbeaten 84-run knock against RCB or a breathtaking 96-run innings against five-time champions CSK, Sudharsan has always lived up to the expectations for GT in the IPL.
  • So, he will likely bat at his preferred number 3 position and provide the middle-order batters with a solid base to accelerate in the slog overs.

The curious case of Anuj Rawat

Criterion
Overs 1-6
Overs 7-20
Runs176469
Average1636.1
Strike Rate97.8142.1

(Comparison between Rawat's T20 stats in powerplay and after powerplay)

  • If Buttler keeps wickets, Gujarat Titans should simply allot him the opening slot with Shubman Gill, with Sai Sudharsan, Mahipal Lomror, Glenn Phillips, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan following the dynamic duo.
  • However, if Buttler doesn't don the keeping hat, GT will have to fit Anuj Rawat somewhere in their lineup.
  • Of course, they can ask Rawat to fill Wriddhiman Saha's void and open the batting. But this experiment can backfire on them, as it will delay the entry point of Sai Sudharsan, who has batted at three on 20 out of 25 occasions for Gujarat Titans.
  • Also, as shown in the above table, Rawat has much better numbers in the middle and slog overs than powerplay. So, ideally, GT should use him as an enforcer in the middle overs.

Finishers: Glenn Phillips, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia

Shahrukh Khan923

Rahul Tewatia81627.2/163.5
  • Gujarat Titans have a formidable finishing department comprising Glenn Phillips, Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia.
  • While Phillips can dispatch any kind of length deliveries straight into the stands, Tewatia's cheeky shots and Shahrukh's power-hitting certainly make GT a fearsome batting unit.
  • As evidenced by the above stats, these three players have been absolutely merciless while dealing with the bowlers in slog overs. However, they definitely have some flaws against spin; so their entry points must be managed carefully.
