The Rajasthan Royals secured a place in the IPL 2024 playoffs after finishing third on the points table. Recording eight wins amidst five defeats from 13 completed fixtures, Sanju Samson’s troops also knocked out RCB in the Eliminator to seal a spot in the second qualifier. However, the Royals fell short to a rampaging SRH unit in the match to finish IPL 2024 as the third best side of the season.

Nonetheless, a relatively successful season for the Rajasthan Royals prompted the franchise to make full use of its retention rights prior to the IPL 2025 mega auction. Among players set to reprise their roles for the Royals in IPL 2025, here we take a look at three of those cricketers who also excelled with either bat or ball for them back during IPL 2024.

Sandeep Sharma became one of the six cricketers to be retained by the Rajasthan Royals franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. While the senior IPL speedster picked up just 13 wickets from 11 matches of the IPL 2024 season, he did so while maintaining an economy rate of just 8.18, the best among all Rajasthan Royals players of the competition with more than five wickets to their names. Sandeep Sharma even picked up a match-winning five-wicket haul in the process, doing so against Mumbai Indians which included the prized scalps of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Tim David in his four-over spell.

2. Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals captain and blistering wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson finished IPL 2024 as the second highest run-maker of his team, and the fifth highest overall with 531 runs in just 15 innings. Samson plundered five half-centuries throughout the tournament, which included two ‘Player of the Match’ performances with the bat.

Assam cricketer Riyan Parag, part of the Rajasthan Royals group since 2019, justified the faith of the franchise with his breakthrough IPL season in 2024. The charismatic middle-order batter clattered 573 runs from just 14 innings of the season at an exceptional average of 52.09. Overall, the youngster fell only behind Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the season’s ‘Orange Cap’ race.

Out of his four half-centuries, Parag smacked two of them in succession, both in match-winning causes, against a strong Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians attack. Moreover, the 49-ball 77 he punched out against SRH nearly pulled off a miraculous run-chase for the Rajasthan Royals, after they had crashed to 1-2 in a chase of 202. Parag also scored his runs at a brisk pace throughout the IPL 2024 season, as he held a belligerent strike rate of 149.21.
