Mumbai Indians have always been a powerhouse in the IPL, but let's be real as things haven’t been all sunshine and rainbows for them lately. The five-time IPL champions finished at the bottom of the points table last season and after the IPL 2025 mega-auction they are getting their hopes up for a total turn of tides in the upcoming season.

However, a few key players, who were expected to perform big after the auction, have failed to live up to their expectations in 2024. Let’s take a look at three Mumbai Indians players who have struggled this year.

Three MI Players Who Were In Their Worst In 2024

3) Will Jacks

Will Jacks, the English cricketer, is expected to make a significant impact for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. However, his performance in 2024 has been far from impressive. In ODIs, Jacks managed only 192 runs in 8 innings at an average of 24, with a strike rate of 93.7.

The INR 5.25 crore buy's T20I numbers are even more underwhelming, with just 202 runs in 10 innings at an average of 20.2 and a strike rate of 127. Jack’s inability to make consistent contributions with the bat will place him in hot waters with the possibility that the management might bench him for most of the matches.

2) Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav, known for his aggressive and innovative style of batting, is a crucial player for Mumbai Indians. He was retained by MI for INR 16.35 crore, however, his performance in 2024 has been below expectations. In T20Is, he scored 429 runs in 17 innings at an average of 26.8, with a strike rate of 151.6.

Although Surya's strike rate remains impressive, his average indicates a lack of consistency, and he was not able to convert his starts into match-winning knocks for which he is particularly known. His inconsistency with the bat might be problematic as his SMAT and Vijay Hazare Trophy performances were also not noticeable except for a few innings, and heading into IPL 2025, he will need to find his fire again.

1) Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, the former Mumbai Indians captain, is one of the most iconic players in IPL and Indian cricket. However, 2024 has been a tough year for the seasoned batter. In Test cricket, Sharma has had a lean patch, scoring just 620 runs in 26 innings at an average of 24.8. In IPL 2024 Sharma scored 417 runs in 14 innings at an average of 32.1 and a strike rate of 150.0. Despite a century to his name, his inability to deliver consistently, coupled with a high dot-ball percentage highlights his struggles to maintain momentum during critical phases of the game.

Though Rohit Sharma managed 378 runs in T20Is at a decent strike rate of 159.5, his recent inconsistency has overshadowed his reputation as a big-hitter. With calls for his retirement from Test cricket growing louder after his consecutive failures in BGT, Sharma might get mental fatigue coming ahead of the IPL 2025 season which can also affect his performance.
